Dubbed the Pure Base 500DX and priced at £90, the new variant is aimed squarely at those who liked the original but, in be quiet!'s own words, crave "a more playful design with aRGB lighting and high airflow."

The jazzed-up exterior is a bit of an acquired taste - we prefer the understated, sound-dampened outlook of the regular model - but aesthetic preferences aside, be quiet! has ultimately met the brief. Airflow is improved thanks to well-ventilated front and top panels alongside a third 140mm Pure Wings 2 fan, there's plenty of RGB lighting for those wanting to make a statement, and USB-C connectivity now features as standard.

Bottom line: the original may be sleeker and quieter, but for those who prioritise performance, the Pure Base 500DX is a worthwhile alternative.
