Back in January this year, HEXUS reviewed the AOC Q3279VWF 31.5-inch QHD VA-panel monitor. The monitor was bargain priced, for the screen real estate on offer, and added some niceties such as AMD FreeSync at up to 75Hz, and attractively inky blacks thanks to the panel type. However, we judged its brightness and colour accuracy to be mediocre, and the supplied tilt-only stand was the only positioning option, due to no VESA mounting compatibility.

Today AOC emailed HEXUS about a sibling for the Q3279VWF, which could make it more attractive to those that value colour gamut and accuracy more highly. The new AOC Q3279VWFD8 then, is basically the same monitor as the one we reviewed but with an IPS panel in place of the VA one. In its email AOC explained the benefits "The new monitor, Q3279VWFD8 uses a different panel type - IPS - rather than the VA panel used in its older brother and boasts a wider colour gamut for increased colour accuracy and therefore more vivid, natural and eye-catching imagery." IPS panels usually have better viewing angles too.

Other technical details shared are as follows:

  • 2560x1440 pixels IPS panel
  • Viewing angles of 178/178°
  • WLED backlight
  • Brightness: 250cd/m2
  • 8-bit+FRC panel delivering 1.07 billion colours
  • 88 per cent coverage of the NTSC colour gamut, 98 per cent sRGB coverage
  • 1200:1 static contrast ratio
  • 5ms GtG response
  • 75Hz max refresh
  • Stand: -2/+21.5 °
  • HDMI 1.4 x 1, VGA, DVI, DisplayPort 1.2 x 1, headphone out. Power, HDMI and DP cables supplied.

In addition to the above, AOC says that the monitor employs its own Flicker-Free technology which eliminates flicker by using Direct Current (DC) for regulating brightness. AOC's Clear Vision technology improves clarity and vividness when viewing Standard Definition (SD) content. Low Blue Light and Game Colour modes are also available via the OSD.

If you like what you have read about the new AOC Q3279VWFD8, we are told that the monitor will become available in the UK sometime this month and be sold at or around an MSRP of £219. Buyers get a three year warranty.

Loving my Q3279VWF which I picked up recently. Be interested to see how this compares with blacks/light bleed which the MVA panel should be better at handling. Not going to complain either way as I got mine as an open box deal (from Amazon for £175) which was a bit of a bargain for such a large detailed screen… Would definitely recommend as an all round screen.

Got to agree with this. Had mine since just before Christmas and I've been very happy with it for a bit of light gaming and web browsing. It's not going to beat more expensive monitors in terms of pure performance but for the price it's excellent value.
Does anyone know if this monitor supports HDCP content protection for DVD & Blu-Ray? I tried looking on the AOC website & couldn't any reference to it?

Edit!

Found the manual for the monitor, but there's no reference to HDCP, so I'm guessing it doesn't support it :(
No VESA mounting :(

Isn't that stuff tied to whatever hdmi or dp version it has?
