be quiet! has taken the step of updating its popular Straight Power line with half-a-dozen models equipped with higher wattages, 80 PLUS Platinum efficiency, and keener pricing.

The review 1,000W unit is an exercise in design restraint, but it does achieve its technical promise of super-high efficiency made possible by refinements to the platform.

Low noise, plenty of useful cabling, and an aggressive £160 price point are clear plus points, though the inclusion of 'only' a five-year warranty is below average in this segment.

We can see this model being positioned as a general workhorse for high-end desktop or workstation PCs, where running under load for thousands of hours per year is paramount. Saving around 20W per hour under such load compared to an 80 PLUS Gold adds up over the course of time.

Bottom line: the be quiet! Straight Power 11 Platinum 1,000W is a no-nonsense PSU that does exactly what it says on the tin.

The Straight Power 11 units are cracking psu's but bequiet needs to keep up with it's competitors when it comes to pricing and warranty length. Most of their lineup carries a premium price tag compared to it's competitors yet they only offer stingy three and five year warranties. This really does need to change. Even their most expensive psu's, the Dark Power Pro series with the most expensive costing around £300 only has a pathetic five year warranty. That's simply not good enough when their competitors are offering seven, ten and even twelve year warranties, often on vastly cheaper psu's.

Yeah, the warranties are a tad on the stingy side, but then be quiet's PSUs tend to out last their warranties anyway :)

Heh, my PSU only had a 5 year warranty, but that was a long warranty when I got it. How things change.
