Conclusion

The ProLite GE2488HS isn't at the cutting-edge of the display market: it lacks support for new gamer-centric technologies, like FreeSync and G-Sync, and it has a standard 1080p resolution. Furthermore, the use of a TN panel results in weak viewing angles, although, such a trade-off needs to be made to attain lightning-fast response times that are so important to gamers. Such low response times in the 1-3ms region are not currently possible with alternative panel types like IPS.

Iiyama’s ‘pro gaming’ monitor isn’t going to win any awards for its functionality or styling; the GE2488HS is about as plain as you can get, though, the neutrality of the design can be considered a good thing as it will fit in with most builds. With respect to functionality and connectivity, there’s not much else Iiyama needs to do for a modest 1080p display like this, in fact they've likely done too much. Take, for instance, the included speakers which, while functional, are unlikely to be used as most gamers will be equipping a headset or higher-quality speakers.

The Iiyama ProLite GE2488HS is a monitor distilled down to the bare-essentials and its price of £115 reflects that, which is a good thing.  Despite the glitz and glam of 4K, FreeSync, G-Sync and other new monitor technologies, simple monitors like this one will remain popular, and rightly so. In fact, you only have to check out Steam's hardware survey to see that, by far, 1,920 x 1,080 is still the most popular gaming resolution with 33.47 per cent of all Steam users sporting it. QHD (2,560 x 1,440) and UHD (3,840 x 2,160) have just 0.65 and 0.02 per cent respectively - food for thought.

While it’s ‘pro gamer’ credentials might be debatable, the overall performance and value for money offered by the GE2488HS makes it a solid consideration for anyone who likes to game.

Yes, the ‘pro gamer’ credentials most certainly are debatable. There's more to a gaming monitor than a g2g response. No 60Hz monitor can be considered even a gaming monitor, let alone a PRO gaming monitor in my eyes.
What is good, though, is a high quality TN panel in an affordable package, and they should be commended for that.

it's just marketed badly (or rather, mis-marketed).
I have actually just purchased one a few weeks back and am actually really impressed with it, but I am coming from a 5 year old Samsung that was x1050 so I am easily pleased :)
I also got one of these a few weeks back and must say that I am very impressed with its all round performance. However, mine has a maximum refresh rate of 144Hz, so very smooth.
