Performance - Part II
Brightness and Contrast
Iiyama advertises a maximum brightness of 250 nits and contrast ratio of 1000:1. In our testing we recorded a maximum brightness of 255 nits with a contrast ratio close to 700:1. The actual contrast ratio is some way off the advertised number which just goes to show specifications should be taken with a pinch of salt.
The brightness uniformity test is where the GE2488HS scored lowest: it showed brightness variations of up to 10%, rising to 15% at lower brightness levels. Interestingly, we couldn’t identify these brightness variations by eye so take that as you will. The results aren’t uncommon though, most displays tend to be brightest at their centre-point.
Iiyama did a good job keeping backlight bleed well under control with only the faintest sign along the bottom edge of the display.
Power Consumption
The default brightness of the Iiyama ProLite is 80/100 within the on-screen menu, a fairly high number that equates to 215 nits. After calibration to 120 nits, 33/100, power consumption drops by 30%.
Most 1080p panels of newer generation LED lightning technology tend to sit at sub 25-watt power envelopes so these results should not be a surprise.
