Dell has revamped its best-selling Inspiron lineup with a glossier and sleeker R-series. The curvy glossy exterior with chrome accents and forward-positioned hinge design are key new features for the Inspiron R which comes in an eye-catching palette, including Lotus Pink, Tomato red, peacock Blue and Mars Black.Despite its facelift, the laptop has similar internals to the existing Inspirons with Core i5 and Core i3 processors.
Available with 14-, 15- or 17in displays, the R-series ship with 1,366x768 screens (1,600x900 on 17in), Pentium, Core i3, Core i5 chips, and standard Intel HD Graphics. Options include an upgrade to a Radeon HD 5470 GPU, Blu-ray player, and up to 8GB of system memory.
The model is designed to make it easier to find personal files, share photos wirelessly and host a mobile personal entertainment hub offering smooth video playback, HD visuals and an integrated webcam, Dell says.
Dell Dock is a handy built-in feature, which cuts time searching for applications and files placing commonly-used programmes and documents at the top of the screen. Meanwhile, the optional and impressive Intel Wireless Display (via Netgear PTV1000) allows the Inspiron R-series to project the laptop display on a nearby HDTV without the need for messy cables, should make business slideshows or showing video clips a breeze.
