Following up on the closed beta for DOOM at the end of March, Bethesda is now confidently and kindly about to offer an open beta. The open beta runs from 15- 17th April and you will be able to pre-download the necessary game files from 12th April. Bethesda has announced the first set of DLC for DOOM. Three premium multiplayer DLC pack will be coming to DOOM with new maps, weapons and other fripperies. Each of the three DLC packs will cost $14.99 (£11.99) or obtainable via the season pass, costing $39.99 (£29.99).

Like the closed beta the open beta participants will have access to Team Deathmatch and Warpath on the Heatwave and Infernal maps. Bethesda reminds us that this is "just a fraction of what you'll be diving into when we unleash Hell on 13 May on Xbox One, PS4 and PC". The gaming development company added that there will be free updates on the way after launch providing extra content for SnapMap and multiplayer.

DOOM component SnapMap has been purposed to allow users to generate their own content, play it and share it. SnapMap itself will be updated to allow greater flexibility with its extra map modules, props and objects, additional features, and functionality.

Moving on to paid extras, or DLC, Bethesda says there are three DLC packs planned and each, in turn, will provide the following:

  • Three new maps
  • One new weapon
  • One new playable demon
  • One new armour set
  • One new piece of equipment
  • New hack modules and taunts
  • New customization colours and patterns

So there we have Bethesda splitting the player base with standard and premium map availability. Each DLC pack will cost $14.99 (£11.99) and the 3xDLC season pass, costs $39.99 (£29.99). The first DLC pack will launch in the summer.

That DLC makes it sound like you have to pay double for a “complete” game, you're going to be fairly restricted without it.

It's completely normal these days to release unfinished games and charge another 60 bucks for things that were already in the game on release day but not unlocked. Personally not gonna pay more than 10 for this. Don't care if I'm late to the party then. It's just Doom, not gonna be game of the anything.
Agreed. I don't mind some DLC like the stuff for Fallout that gives a decent amount of additional gameplay that doesn't particularly affect the core game, or Rocket league where all of the DLC so far has been cosmetic and doesn't affect the gameplay whatsoever if you choose not to purchase it.

But when you have to pay to access game modes that really should be standard, or keep up with weapons other players will have because they paid more, the appeal soon wears off.

Might give the beta a spin if it's not huge to download, but Bethesda have just doomed the moths in my wallet to an even longer sentence. Cruel.
All of that DLC should be released 6-12 months after initial release in single release with price tag 10-15 quid. Paying 12 quid to get one new weapon?! :DDD
Not buying DLC for any FPS ever again. Mostly because half the people won't buy it and it divides the player base. Look at Battlefield… original maps and non DLC are the most popular.
