Anyone who bought Fight Night Champion will have noticed that the game wasn't released with a manual; instead players could access a number of in-game tutorials. This wasn't a one-off. EA Sports voice-box Rob Semsey has now confirmed that all EA Sports will now feature in-game tutorials on the disc only.
"It also saves on printing costs, of course," Semsey said in an official statement for EA Sports. "The reality is many games now include tutorial levels that do the job better, sports games included. Fight Night Champion begins with one. Gamers may like the idea of a printed instruction booklet, especially to read on the john, but the truth is most jump right into a game without reading one."
It's currently unconfirmed whether this policy will now apply to just EA Sports titles, or all of Electronic Arts' games. EA isn't the first company to ditch game manuals of course. Last year, Ubisoft decided to also offer "more intuitive access" to consumers via in-game guides.
