Initially shunned by 2K Games - until dozens of complaints rolled in - PC gamers who initially weren’t going to get Bioshock 2’s game add-on that appeared last year on Xbox 360 and PS3, once again have reason to grumble.

Having bowed to the pressure from the Bioshock 2 community, the DLC was eventually confirmed for PC and the Protector Trials add-on appeared briefly on Games For Windows Live Marketplace last night, only to disappear shortly after. Lots of head-scratching from the community followed, before an announcement from 2K’s community head, Elizabeth, confirming that the DLC was not actually ready for release and its appearance on the marketplace was a mistake.

Elizabeth has been getting a fair bit of stick from the community, some of who downloaded the content which now doesn’t work. To her credit, she responded swiftly…

"Mistakes happen - sometimes out of our control. I'm the head of community, so if you feel that you weren't treated well, I'm stepping up and letting you know that's my failing. But in this case, all I can do is apologize and let you know that I wasn't checking the Marketplace or the forums around 10pm last night and so this wasn't caught until my community manager checked the thread.”

The main complaint, however, is over the fact that the DLC cost 400 Microsoft Points to download, even though 2K has previously promised that the add-on would be free for PC gamers. Was that a mistake too?

We won’t find out for definite until Tuesday, when 2K says that will let the community know what on earth is going on regarding refunds and the finished DLC package.
