EA Sports wants to bring its video games to life in "unbelievably imaginative ways" via 3D technology, says EA Sports boss Peter Moore.

Speaking in an interview with CVG, Moore said that the company needs to understand what 3D means to them before it can bring its sports games to life, but believes the genre will be extremely important to the growth of the technology.

Moore says that games will have to built from the ground-up with 3D in mind.

"None of the games I've seen [so far] have been built that way - they've been regular games running in 3D. The real secret sauce will be when somebody says: 'I'm going to build this game specifically for a 3D platform.'"

Moore then suggested that EA Sports could be that "somebody" who gets the ball rolling and implements 3D technology into it's games.

"Absolutely. I'm not making any announcements, but it's no coincidence that of the 3D [TV] broadcasts I've seen in the last two years, I can count the NBA All-Star event in Las Vegas, while ESPN has announced 3D programming - perhaps even a full channel. There have also been a number of announcements around the [football] World Cup, with some games broadcast in 3D."

FIFA in 3D anyone?

EA SPORTS … hmmm… couldnt even release a decent Cricket game and now even that project has been shelved.
Cricket has a limited appeal

Their new licences like EA MMA (mainly Strikeforce/Pride/Affliction fighters with a few UFC vets who didn't sign away their rights like Randy Couture) could use this kind of technology
