PRESS RELEASE

New ad-free and U-rated content for pre-schoolers now available on Samsung Smart TV

London, UK, 10 December 2014 - Working in partnership with Hopster, Samsung is bringing safe and ad-free TV for preschool children to the Samsung Smart Hub. The new app now available on Samsung Smart TV offers BAFTA and Emmy award-winning, U-rated TV shows for children aged between 2 - 6 years old on the biggest screen in the house.

With recent research showing that 71% of parents agree that digital devices and screens allow children to explore and discover new things 1, the Hopster Smart TV App is a one-of-a-kind, ad-free subscription service that brings preschoolers an extensive catalogue of hundreds of episodes of award-winning TV shows, with more exciting content still to come.

The Hopster Smart TV App is also the first and only app to have all content comprehensively ‘U' rated by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) and has also been vetted by leading academic advisors to ensure the best and easy-to-use TV and learning content is available2.  The app also features a separate locked down area for parental administration.

For just £3.99 per month, subscribers have unlimited access to hundreds of episodes of family favourite TV shows including favourites Bob the Builder, Ben & Holly's Little Kingdom, Paddington Bear, Max & Ruby PinguAngelina Ballerina and many more.

Doug D'Souza, TV/AV Content Manager at Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland, commented: "The addition of Hopster to the Samsung Smart Hub means that families can now enjoy even more great content together at home. From a carefully selected catalogue of award-winning TV shows that's ad-free, families will be guaranteed the very best of children's TV straight into the living room all enhanced by the true-to-life picture quality of our Smart TVs".

Nick Walters, Hopster's CEO and founder, added: "Our mission at Hopster is to make screen time better for kids - and the TV is still the number one screen in most family homes. Working with Samsung is fantastic as it allows us to bring even more families in the UK a better experience: completely ad-free TV, with only the best shows on demand, and comprehensively U-rated. What's more, we're very excited to explore the potential of Samsung's Smart TV technologies and deliver a more interactive TV experience on the biggest screen in the house, in much the same way we already do on the Hopster app for tablet and mobile."

Available on all 2012, 2013 and 2014 Samsung Smart TV models, the Hopster App will join an ever-growing collection of services available on Samsung Smart TVs such as Full Catch Up TV (ITV Player, BBC iPlayer, 4oD and Demand 5), Netflix, LOVEFiLM, Rightmove, Spotify, YouTube, Facebook andTwitter. ‘Samsung Apps' is the first and biggest App store available for TVs, with over 20 million Apps already downloaded worldwide, proof that consumers are rapidly embracing the Smart TV format.

According to research per 1000 person study conducted for Hopster by Dubit in Jan 14.

The Hopster app has been developed and vetted in partnership with leading academics (Professor Lydia Plowman, University of Edinburgh, Professor A. Karmiloff-Smith, University of London, Birkbeck, Alison Bryant PhD., PlayScience and Rosalie Blank, PlayScience.)
