Conclusion

Gigabyte's mini PC remains an attractive and space-saving solution that offers generous connectivity options...

The transition from Core i5-6200U to Core i5-7200U is a natural progression for the Brix S and one that improves an already impressive package.

Gigabyte's mini PC remains an attractive and space-saving solution that offers generous connectivity options that include built-in WiFi and USB Type-C, and CPU performance has increased by as much as 16 per cent over the previous generation.

The obvious hurdle, as expected, is price. At £400 for a barebone unit, the Brix S isn't going to be an impulse purchase, and while storage and memory are easy to add thanks to a user-friendly chassis, total cost can quite easily sail past £600 when configured with a good-sized SSD, 16GB of DDR4 and Windows 10.

Bottom line: the Brix S mini PC continues to serve as a capable PC for any user wanting to cut down on clutter. The performance gains over previous generations aren't groundbreaking, but if you're considering an upgrade from a PC that's starting to show its age, the GB-BKi5HA-7200, with an SSD and DDR4 memory, would bring you right up to date.

Ideal for running Netflix 4K!! ;) :p
£100 more gets you it with 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD, 10 hour battery life and a 1080p screen…
400 notes for a #### i3. Rip-off.
It's expensive but does look very nice and performs well for such a small form factor
Weird that it gets so hot with a 15W CPU. However, I like the direction this is going - low power but still very powerful CPUs. Once you experience quiet computing you'd never go back to PCs with like 4 120mm fans rotating at 1600 or more rpm. Also, an average powerful PC now consumes almost 200W at idle. We should bring that number down a bit.

You want more powerful CPUs? You should talk to lazy programmers instead. They should start optimising the unoptimised bloatware they keep churning out last decade or so.
