Final Thoughts and Rating

...an overclocked Core i5 processor, 8GB of memory, a solid-state system drive and a GeForce GTX 660 Ti provide a near-perfect configuration for high-quality, full-HD gaming.

For £899, the PC Specialist Vanquish Prodigy delivers plenty of gaming potential in a tidy and compact package that's fun, space saving and portable.

On the component front, the default choices of an overclocked Core i5 processor, 8GB of memory, a solid-state system drive and a GeForce GTX 660 Ti provide a near-perfect configuration for high-quality, full-HD gaming.

Strong all-round performance is backed up by ample storage provided by a secondary hard disk, excellent under-load temperatures aided by a Corsair Hydro Series H40 cooler and a good selection of trimmings - including USB 3.0, a DVD writer and integrated Wi-Fi.

This is close to being one of the most enjoyable gaming PCs on the market, but there are a couple of shortcomings that take a bit of shine off the build as a whole. The BitFenix chassis, while admittedly fun, has a tendency to wobble on its FyberFlex stand, and PC Specialist's 200mm front intake is needlessly loud.

The Good

Strong gaming performance
Compact Mini-ITX design
SSD and liquid cooling as standard
Competitive price tag
Three-year warranty

The Bad

Wobbly BitFenix chassis
Could do with quieter fans

I've been messing with the configurator online, swapping out a few components you can have a nice little machine built witht the 3yr warranty for a not unreasonable amount, I'm quite suprised actually. Downside of swapping out to an mATX mobo (excluding wifi?)
Looks suspiciously like the 200mm fan is installed backwards, and is exhausting out the front of the case? o.O
That is a fantastic price, but it looks like it's some sort of special offer - as soon as you start messing around with the configurator the price jumps up significantly. In fact, if you use the configurator to build up this exact spec it comes in at £1,079!

At £899 it's a steal though - especially as the website says it actually comes with the ‘silver’ warranty (one year C&R) rather than the standard warranty as stated in the article (1 month C&R)
Why does Hexus keep showcasing PCs fropm etailers ? Everyone on Hexus knows how to build a PC and are really really good at it.
Some of us can't be bothered any more. Even though I can and have done it many times previously. It's not worth my time building a new PC from parts. It's one of the reasons I go with Apple gear now.
