Conclusion

There are readers out there sitting with a smug 'told-you-so' look upon their faces right about now. They’re the ones who’ve been enjoying a 1,920x1,200 monitor for years.

Such a resolution is hardly a secret, but having been nudged aside by ubiquitous 1080p panels, the few remaining WUXGA displays are easily overlooked. An influx of premium monitors touting huge screens, ultra-high resolutions or eye-catching curves has diverted our attention, yet AOC's X24P1 serves as a refreshing reminder that you don't need to break the bank in order to obtain a quality display.

The 16:10 aspect ratio is a fine choice for productivity, the bezels are nice and thin, the stand is suitably versatile, and the IPS panel delivers excellent viewing angles, impressive brightness and commendable out-the-box accuracy. Overall uniformity and contrast could be better, and a density of 94 pixels per inch may be considered somewhat basic by today's standards, but these are minor quibbles on what is ultimately a solid all-rounder for the home or office.

Bottom line: limited supply ensures that 16:10 panels aren't as aggresively priced as their 16:9 equivalents, but the premium is justified by a superior overall experience. In the market for a quality 24in monitor? AOC's X24P1 is recommended.
