Conclusion

Quiet as a church mouse under the harshest of gaming loads, the brute-force approach works well on this otherwise mainstream-sized GPU.

GeForce GTX 1070 makes more financial sense than the GTX 1080 because it provides about 80 per cent of the performance for 65 per cent of the outlay. The upshot is excellent numbers at 1440p but not quite the 4K60 performance some may have been expecting before the Pascal launch.

Still, paying £400 for a graphics card requires serious thought and consideration about which brand to buy. Pailt puts forward a strong case with the GameRock Premium Edition model. Overclocked on both core and memory and using a huge heatsink that can effortlessly tame GPUs spitting out 50 per cent more power, the results are predictably impressive.

Quiet as a church mouse under the harshest of gaming loads, the brute-force approach works well on this otherwise mainstream-sized GPU. Anyone upgrading from an older card from a couple of years back should certainly consider it over the performance-comparable GTX 980 Ti, particularly if energy consumption and potential VR performance matters to you.

We're not huge fans of the colour scheme and urge Palit to increase the standard warranty cover to an industry-matching three years. If you can't quite stretch to the GTX 1080 yet want a card that's priced well for a GTX 1070 while also being very easy on the ear, the Palit GameRock Premium Edition sets a good benchmark.

The Good

The Bad
Very good core overclock
Memory overclocked
Extremely quiet
Fans switch off at low load

2.5-slot form factor
Very limited OC potential on core
Questionable colour scheme

Questionable color scheme as a con? I think it looks great and the cooler itself is great too. If this cooler ever makes it to other card, I think I may give Palit a try.
Nice review Hexus. Any thoughts on why the non-reference prices are so much higher than implied in earlier articles?
Simple price gouging due to a lack of supply, I'm afraid.
Staggering performance boost, but for the high-mid range card the x70 cards were good bang-for-buck, but these sort of prices are verging on ludicrous.

Hopefully AMD's next set of cards will restore some order to the pricing. I've picked up a second 970 to SLI for the time being. Will wait until the next architecture change and HBM to come along.
When/if these come down to £330-350 I'll have one in a heartbeat. Doubtful the way things are going though
