Running at close to 70ºC under load, this is shaping up to be one of the coolest air-chilled GTX 980 Tis available...Nvidia has set the stage for enthusiast gaming with the ultra-fast GeForce GTX 980 Ti and we're now seeing various partners follow-up with their own takes on the most powerful 900-series card to date.
Demonstrating that individual partners will take a contrasting approach, Zotac's GTX 980 Ti AMP! has its sights set on lowering temps above all else. Running at close to 70ºC under load, this is shaping up to be one of the coolest air-chilled GTX 980 Tis available, and we suspect only liquid-cooled alternatives will go lower.
Good cooling performance is the AMP!'s key selling point, however Zotac has played it safe in other areas. The six per cent factory overclock is modest, all three fans lack the ability to turn off at low load, and if you like your GPUs to run quiet, Zotac's overzealous fan profile may prove bothersome.
The real quandary, however, is the imminent arrival of AMD's rival Radeon R9 Fury X. Anyone in the market for an extreme GPU is advised to wait until June 24 for a clearer picture of how the enthusiast landscape will take shape, but should AMD stumble, the Zotac AMP! edition is well placed to steal the Radeon's thunder.
