The XFX 7950GT Extreme Edition Passive delivers precisely what you'd expect for a 7950GT with slightly increased core and memory clocks. It's a bit more expensive than other pre-overclocked 7950GTs, and you can pick up stock boards for over £30 less. But the passive cooling puts this card in a different league as well. If you want this level of performance in a card which doesn't make a whisper, the XFX certainly delivers as specified, and you could put two together in SLI for monster frames per second without the noise. Around £70 more will get you an ATi Radeon X1900XT, which is noticeably faster in many games, but won't be as quiet, or take away £40 and purchase the 256MB variant. Again, though, if silence is important and you need a high-performance card to go with it, there's not much better. So two thumbs up for the 7950GT Extreme Edition Passive, as well as two dewclaws for the box art.

Thinking about getting one of these as the second card for SLi. Working on the theory that the VF900's fan will keep them both plenty cool.

Then again I'll most likely just buy one and stick a another huge HSF fan on it. you said the passive cooling limited the over-clocking a bit, how high did you manage?
This is just what iv been waiting for to add to a HTPC, fast silent gfx card, if only ati had a silent x1950.

LOL.

Wait a week or so - there should be an ultimate x1950 from sapphire soonish. It's not totally silent, but it's mostly passive with a backup slow spining fan (judging from their previous ultimate releases).

Using the X1950pro core it's defiantly possible. Passive X1950XTX?? Well see my last post :P
