Conclusion

...maintains everything good about the original while offering support for the high-end gear most enthusiasts are likely to want.

Cooler Master has tweaked its existing Q300L platform to allow for a full-size ATX motherboard in one of the smallest mid-tower enclosures on the market.

The resulting case, dubbed the Q500L and priced at £50, maintains everything good about the original while offering support for the high-end gear most enthusiasts are likely to want. In addition to the choice of motherboard form factors, there's room for a powerful graphics card, liquid cooling and up to four storage drives.

Squeezing a high-performance build into a chassis as petite as this is both fun and rewarding, and though we aren't quite into small-form-factor territory, the Q500L is certainly easier to transport than the average mid-tower, and it can also sit on top of the desk, in a choice of orientation, without too much workspace infringement.

There is still room for improvement - Type-C would be nice, as would a pair of bundled PWM fans - but as a starting point for a space-saving rig, the Q500L is enjoyable to work with and an interesting choice for those looking to downsize.

The Good

The Bad
Available for £50
Much smaller than your regular ATX tower
Clever layout can accommodate high-end gear
Plenty of fan-mount locations
Desktop, tower or inverted orientations
Flexible perforated panels with full-size filters

Out-the-box performance not great
USB-C would have been nice
Acrylic side panel bends too easily

Would this be better than the Phanteks p350x with a blower GPU?
Even using latest bios you couldnt get 3200 ram ? that seems abit off. Even my VERY finicky asus hero VI finally runs my crap E-die dimms at 3200 now. (took till august last year for a good enough bios however)

I do like the case however. I may have to pick one up when i finish migrating my HDDs to the server and just have my m2 SSD and a lone games drive. Would make it far more portable than my current case.

:edit: mmmh maybe not. I just saw this and realised it doesnt have full holes for radiator fans so airflow will be far more restricted than my case… and i dont fancy using a holesaw on it.
