Kingston is usurping established enthusiast-orientated memory manufacturers by announcing the world's fastest desktop memory, the company said today.

Part of the high-end HyperX line, Kingston is announcing the Intel XMP validation of a dual-channel 4GB kit (2 x 2GB) running at a blistering 2,400MHz.

Tested on a number of P55 chipset-based boards with a Core i7 800-series processor in situ, the Kingston kit runs at relatively loose latencies of 9-11-9-27-2T at 1.65V.

The Intel-supplied 'leaderboard' shows the Kingston kit to be rated 67MHz higher than Corsair's fastest.

To be made available in Q2 2010, there's no word yet on pricing. We don't expect the KHX2400C9D3T1K2/4GX to be cheap, though, as a 4GB kit of DDR3-2,000 RAM currently costs £200.

We spoke with Mark Tekunoff, senior technology manager at Kingston, during CeBIT 2010, and, amongst other chit-chat, he shed some further light on the modules.
