Netgear was showing off its RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router (model WNDR3700) way back in January at the annual Consumer Electronics Show, and after a lengthy wait, the California-based manufacturer had today announced that the router is finally shipping globally.

The RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router, pictured below, is being dubbed by Netgear as "the ultimate networking machine". We perhaps wouldn't go that far, but it certainly packs a lot of functionality into its sleek 223mm x 153mm x 31mm frame.

The router, powered by a 680MHz processor at its heart, features dual band technology - allowing for concurrent use of the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency bands. The idea is to offer improved wireless connections, and Netgear claims the RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router can provide Transmission Control Protocol throughput of up to 350Mbps combined.

In addition to the promise of vastly-improved Wireless capabilities, the router also sports a quartet of Gigabit Ethernet ports - providing up to 500Mbps WAN to LAN speeds.

Speed clearly isn't an issue here, but the router's also packing plenty of useful functionality. It's DLNA certified, and equipped with ReadyShare USB Storage Access - allowing users to plug in a USB hard drive for easy access from any networked device. On top of that, there's a broadband usage meter that'll warn you if you're close to your ISP's bandwidth allowance, and a number of eco-friendly features - including the ability to adjust wireless transmit power.

Looks like a mighty impressive piece of kit, but having experienced no shortage of difficulties with Netgear's DG834N, here's one author who'd like to try before he buys.

The RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router is shipping now with a U.S. MSRP of $189.99. Judging by Google, we'll be seeing it on UK shores priced at around the Ā£130 mark. Interested? Check out the official product page at Netgear.com/WNDR3700.

Oh god, I'm glad I'm not the only one. The ADSL router seems to be getting left behind. I refuse to get two boxes when one should be able to do it all.
One device can do it all. The Billion BiPAC 7800n.

I can't post a link cos I have not made enough posts but look it up.
