LG has announced that a smaller member has been added to its curved computer monitor range. We previously covered the unveiling of the LG 34UC97 34-inch 21:9 curved monitor, now the South Korean technology company has added a 29-inch version to its product portfolio, the LG 29UC97. While no pricing or availability is indicated it is hoped the new 29-incher will bring more accessible pricing to LG's desirable curved screen monitors.
LG's newest curved screen monitor boasts an AH-IPS 21:9 ratio panel. The pixel resolution on offer is 2650 x 1080. Other key specifications include a vertical refresh frequency of up to 75Hz, a response rate of 5ms (GTG), Brightness of 300 cd / ㎡and contrast ratio of 1000:1. This factory calibrated monitor offers 100 per cent sRGB color gamut coverage.
Reading modes available include various colour temperature presets, flicker-free and a PBP (picture by picture) mode to make the most of the wide screen display.
The monitor sports the following ports; a DisplayPort, HDMI x2, Thunderbolt x2, USB 3.0 (Up 1, Down 2), Headphone Out. It has stereo speakers, 2 x 7W. The stand provided allows for a tilt of -5º ~ + 15º, swivel, and pivot but you can alternatively mount it via a 100 x 100mm bracket according to the monitor specifications page.
The 34-inch LG 34UC97 monitor costs upwards of £729 in the UK. If you are interested in a curved monitor but the £700 region is a little too steep for your budget currently the choice seems to be between 27-inch curved monitors priced around £300 ± £50. Hopefully the 29-inch LG 29UC97 will sweetly plug the evident price gap in the coming weeks or months.
