Today AOC has emailed HEXUS to tell us about its u3477Pqu monitor. This is an UltraWide QHD 21:9 format monitor with a diagonal of 34-inches (or x/y dimensions of 79.9 x 33.5cm). AOC says that cinema enthusiasts will appreciate the 'cinemascope' experience on offer and office users will enjoy the extra wide expansive desktop for their multitasking activities.

Looking at some of the key specs of the AOC u3477Pqu monitor, what you get before your eyes is 3440 x 1440 pixels (4.95 million of them) with a possible 1.07 billion colours. The IPS (178° viewing angle) panel used by AOC delivers a refresh rate of 60Hz and a pixel response time of 5ms. The screen offers a luminosity of 320cd/m² which should be enough even in a brightly lit environment. Interestingly the Mura uniformity issue, an effect that looks like clouds on dark screens of many monitors, is said to be minimal on this new UltraWide monitor.

AOC has equipped the u3477Pqu with ample connectivity including the following; 2x USB 3.0 ports, 2x USB 2.0 ports, HDMI connector with MHL, Dual-Link DVI, DisplayPort (required for 60Hz native res support), a 3.5mm headphone jack, 3.5mm audio input and an RS-232 port.

AOC has constructed the u3477Pqu monitor with an ulta-thin bezel. The stand looks capable from the images AOC supplied, allowing quite a wide range of height adjustment, tilt and also screen rotation, however the monitor can also be 100mm x 100mm VESA mounted. This monitor also has built-in stereo 3W speakers.

We are informed that the AOC u3477Pqu monitor will be available in the UK from September with an RRP of £499 inc VAT. Buyers will receive a 3 year warranty with on-site exchange service.

Those with anything less than a 4GB 770 SLI rig need not apply..

Also, you have to laugh at the thought of a 34' screen in portrait mode…you'd need to lie on your back to use it unless you want a damaged neck.
My interest has been piqued!

Now, make it curved……

My interest has been piqued!

Now, make it curved……

Have you used a curved display before?

I'm not challenging you it's just that I haven't and I'm interested to see if you benefit from something being curved like this could be.

I know the science behind the focal lengths to lessen eye strain (and why curved TV's are a bit of a gimmick) but I can't see it making a noticeable impact.

Your thoughts?
