EU and US availability

Here's how present GeForce GTX 285 availability and pricing looks in Europe:

Euro Market

etailerProductAvailabilityPrice (inc. VAT)
CSV-direct.de Palit GeForce GTX 285 In stock €340.93
XFX GeForce GTX 285 XXX In stock €359.47
  ASUS GeForce GTX 285 Pre-order €331.55
  Gainward GeForce GTX 285 Pre-order €355.45
  GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 285 Pre-order €339.52
XFX GeForce GTX 285 Black Edition Pre-order €427.26
  MSI GeForce GTX 285 OC Pre-order €391.00
  ZOTAC GeForce GTX 285 Pre-order €391.00
ZOTAC GeForce GTX 285 AMP! Edition Pre-order €415.51

European pricing appears to be somewhat limited. Our usual choice of etailers - Alternate.de and HardwareFreak.de - both currently show no listings for NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 285. Looking further afield, we find limited availability at CSV-direct.de, with in-stock cards priced from €340 - equating to roughly £300.

In the US, there are no such stock shortages. Popular etailer NewEgg.com has ample availability with eight different cards currently available and in stock.

US Market

etailerProductAvailabilityPrice (exc. localised charges )
newegg.com ASUS GeForce GTX 285 In stock $399.99
EVGA GeForce GTX 285 In stock $384.99
XFX GeForce GTX 285 In stock $379.99
ZOTAC GeForce GTX 285 In stock $379.99
EVGA GeForce GTX 285 SC In stock $409.99
MSI GeForce GTX 285 OC In stock $379.99
EVGA GeForce GTX 285 SSC In stock $429.99
BFG GeForce GTX 285 OC In stock $379.99

The cheapest cards, priced at $379.99, equate to roughly £255, but remember that US prices don't include TAX or localised charges. For once, it appears that UK, European and US customers will all be paying in the region of £300 for the same product.

In summary, a GeForce GTX 285 can be purchased for around £300, with an overclocked alternative costing anywhere up to £380. It may be the fastest single-GPU graphics card in the world, but it's available at a price point that doesn't bode well in today's economic climate.

A good read. I just wish Nvidia were in touch with reality in the current market, the way you are.
