Rumours are rife that NVIDIA will release two new high-end SKUs next week.

Egregiously on show during CeBIT expo, the GeForce 9800 GX2  - which combines two GeForce 8800 GT cards in pre-configured SLI, allegedly - will be launched on the 18th. Far be it for us to confirm or deny these rumours.

What's clear is that it should  take back the mantle of world's fastest graphics card, currently held by the ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2, but may cost significantly more than the £270 twin-GPU X2.

The GeForce 9800 GTX, on the other hand, will aim to be the fastest single-GPU card around. Apparently based on the current G92 core but with frequencies boosted to the hilt, it is designed to bridge the gap between the also-new GeForce 8800 GTS 512 and, most likely, the dual-GPU GX2.

More power to the people, huh.

and what's the delay on linux drivers likely to be? ;)

9600gt drivers for linux were published on friday. radeon 3xxx drivers still don't exist
also is it just a case of squeezing out drivers, or having tweaked drivers.

whilst hex might not quite agree with my views of the pain of driver developement on linux, its rather pathetic that they don't have at least *some* support.
It's going to be pushing £400. It's a no-brainer for anyone but the rich/stupid.

Unless the GX2 card features a PCIe bridge like the X2 and the benefits it brings, it's going to be very unflattering. The cooling is rather… interesting too. Overall this upcoming series of nV cards is going to be very, very disappointing, unlike the 9600GT.
….
this takes the mick.. i was hoping for something much more impressive
