The Latitude D400, a full performance sub-four-pound notebook computer that comes standard with integrated wireless, Smart Card reader and Gigabit Ethernet, is now available to customers worldwide, Dell announced today. "The D400 is the smallest member of our Latitude D-Family but it delivers big performance and investment protection required by today's IT managers," said Martin Boyce, Enterprise General Manager, Dell UK. "We hear every day from customers who tell us they want lighter notebooks with no compromises. We designed this notebook and others in the D-Family, with them in mind." Dell's Latitude brand continues to deliver the highest customer satisfaction ratings for notebooks as scored by Technology Business Research in its quarterly Corporate IT Buying Behavior and Customer Satisfaction Study. For the 19th consecutive quarter, Dell notebooks rank No. 1 in the study, with superior customer satisfaction ratings versus their competitors. The D400 comes with Intel's Centrino(tm) Mobile Technology, featuring Intel's new Pentium® M processor with lower power requirements that contribute to longer battery life, and Intel's PRO/Wireless 2100 (802.11b) solution. Customers can also choose Dell's TrueMobile(tm) 1300 (802.11b/g) or TrueMobile 1400 (802.11a/b/g)3 wireless solutions. The D400 weighs 3.7 lbs and is priced starting at £1372.
Innovations across the entire Latitude D-Family portfolio can be found in standard features and chassis design, Boyce said. The D400 includes the new D/Bay, an external modular bay that connects optical and storage devices to the notebook via a powered USB 2.0 port. The D/Bay allows for an additional hard drive, floppy drive or optical drive, including the new DVD+RW drives, to be connected to the notebook. This creates a virtual 2nd spindle that can be carried as needed.
The D400 includes an integrated Smart Card reader, Gigabit1 Ethernet capability, USB 2.0 ports, dual-band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) wireless antennas and optional Bluetooth connectivity. Another standard feature is Dell's QuickSet program, a customizable software application that allows users to easily control power-management settings, monitor system status, enlarge icons for high-resolution displays, and more.
The D400 also is compatible with all the D-Family docking solutions, including the D/Dock, D/Port and D/View notebook stands.
