BEIJING, CHINA-August 18, 2003-AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced that Dawning Information Industry Corp Ltd., a leading server manufacturer in China, plans to launch a comprehensive series of 1- and 2-way servers in China based on AMD OpteronÔ 100 and 200 series processors. The Dawning-A series servers are the first ever 64-bit capable servers in China to provide 32- and 64-bit computing compatibility in one unified platform.
Delivering on a vision of customer-centric innovation that is shared by both AMD and Dawning, the Dawning-A series servers have been specifically developed to drive simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing in China's enterprise market. This product launch strengthens the commitment made by both AMD and Dawning in further developing the enterprise server market in China.
AMD Opteron processors are designed to eliminate barriers to 64-bit computing. Enterprises can dramatically simplify their IT infrastructure and lower their overall total cost of ownership by basing their business on an AMD Opteron processor-based server platform capable of unifying both 32- and 64-bit computing.
"AMD's leading-edge technology and Dawning's research and development for commercial servers are a perfect combination and have made the Dawning-A series a pioneering product in the migration to pervasive 64-bit computing," said Karen Guo, corporate vice president and general manager for China, AMD.
"This comprehensive series of AMD Opteron processor-based servers is expected to enable more Chinese enterprises to implement high-end server solutions in their businesses while maximizing the return on their IT budgets. AMD plans to continue its momentum in China and demonstrate its dedication to helping customers experience the benefits of simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing with a committed local partner like Dawning."
"The unique AMD Opteron processor offers great performance on 32- and 64-bit applications. This allows customers to protect their investment in their existing 32-bit software while also reaping the benefits of 64-bit computing," said Li Jun, president, Dawning Information Industry Corp. Ltd. "Taking into consideration overall performance and customer demand, AMD has become a significant choice in Dawning's development of next-generation high-performance server products.
Dawning plans to work closely with AMD, the technology pioneer, to roll out a full line of AMD Opteron processor-based enterprise server products, providing a new choice for more enterprises in China who wish to quickly migrate to 64-bit computing while maintaining leading-edge 32-bit performance."
Based on AMD Opteron 100 and 200 series processors, the Dawning-A series offers outstanding compatibility and flexibility in four server models - I110A, R120A, I220A and R220A. The I110A and R120A are entry-level servers based on AMD Opteron 100 series processors. The I220A (tower) and R220A (rack-mount) are departmental servers based on AMD Opteron 200 series processors. The Dawning-A series servers have been designed to meet the varied requirements of different customers.
