-AMD's flagship processor takes honors for third consecutive year-

SUNNYVALE, CA - November 8, 2001-Maximum PC has chosen the AMD Athlon(tm) XP
processor for its "CPU of the Year" award for 2001. This is the third
consecutive year AMD's flagship desktop processor has won this influential
award.  Maximum PC announces its Gear of the Year awards annually in the
December issue and posts the winners' names online.

"For CPU of the year, we've selected an AMD Athlon family processor for the
third year in a row," said Maximum PC Editor-in-Chief Jon Phillips.
"We decided to give the Athlon XP the award for offering excellent
performance at a competitive price."

"We are honored that the industry's leading computer enthusiast magazine
has selected the AMD Athlon XP processor for this award," said Ed Ellett,
vice president of Marketing at AMD. "Advanced users and enthusiasts
understand the true indicator of performance is how fast their applications run,
not the clock speed of their processor.  Winning this award reinforces the
fact that the AMD Athlon XP processor is the performance champion for desktop
PCs."
