AMD had a few 790GX chipset-based boards on display at a CTO Summit in Reykjavik, Iceland, this week.

MSI's K9A2GX Digital is a regular ATX-sized mainboard with a few extra features tacked on top, including upgraded cooling.

The ASUS M3A78-T isn't content with just two x16 electrical PCIe slots. Rather, ASUS, as in recent times, adds another that runs at x4, so three-card CrossFireX is still possible, but may be bandwidth limited.

Foxconn's A7DA is more of a no-frills board and features 128MB of DDR2 SidePort memory.

The Gigabyte model, GA-MA790GP-DS4, is also cooled passively. On first glance, we like the layout on this mainboard.

We'd like to see mATX- and Mini-ITX-sized boards released really, really quickly, because they'll make a fine base for an HTPC system.

That almost sounds like its a bad thing… most computer components are simply an upgrade or shrink to the previous generation. 286 -> 386 -> 586 etc…. same with graphics cards, chipsets etc…
