THEALE, BERKSHIRE—MAY 17, 2004—NVIDIA Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA), the worldwide leader in visual processing solutions, today announced that the Company's Mobile PCI Express Module (MXM) initiative has seen tremendous support from industry-leading notebook manufacturers, designers, and key component manufacturers.
The world's leading notebook Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs), including Quanta, Wistron, FIC, Uniwill, Clevo, AOpen, Tatung, Arima, ASUSTeK and Mitac all intend to offer notebooks with MXM incorporated into the design. Also, a number of notebook OEMs will use MXM in notebooks which will be announced at a later date.
"By adopting MXM and building notebooks around a consistent graphics interface, Quanta can be more responsive to our customers and deliver notebooks to market faster," said Roger Huang, Vice President, Mobile Research and Development at Quanta. "With graphics vendors such as NVIDIA designing modules for next generation graphics, Quanta can focus on creating great notebooks and delivering them to our customers."
"Leveraging a single notebook design across multiple product SKUs just makes great business sense," said Robert Huang, General Manager of the Mobile Systems Business Unit, Wistron. "By assembling systems with graphics at the end of the distribution channel, Wistron's customers can build to order for multiple market segments using a single design with different graphics solutions."
"As more and more people choose a notebook as their primary PC, the ability to offer upgradeability will be a differentiating feature for notebook manufacturers, and when customers think about upgrading, graphics automatically comes to mind," said Bernie Tsai, CEO of AOpen. "AOpen is pleased to join NVIDIA in promoting MXM as an open graphics interface for not only notebooks but other small form factors that will shape the competitive landscape. AOpen is positioned to deliver the first MXM-capable notebook and MXM modules."
"As one of the originators of the modular graphics concept for notebooks, we were very pleased to work on the MXM interface with NVIDIA," said David Chen, President and CEO of Uniwill. "MXM will allow us to take the latest graphics from NVIDIA or any graphics vendor and bring it to market for our customers, faster."
"Building on FIC's momentum and experience as a proponent of industry-leading GPU performance, we are truly delivering breakthrough technology by adopting the MXM interface with NVIDIA graphics," said Kin Cheung, president of the Portable Computing Group, FIC. "MXM is really a one-stop solution for next-generation graphics hardware, and will enable FIC to deliver optimal performance across a variety of notebook platforms."
“ASUS is focused on providing world-class notebooks with the latest graphics technology to the market,” said Tony Chen, General Manager of Notebook Business Unit, ASUSTeK. "MXM is the innovative technology that will help us in the long run – it is the best choice to provide both performance and flexibility. We can now design different laptops which will be able to leverage the latest in graphics technology faster than ever before.”
The MXM Graphics Module™ interface was jointly developed in an effort to accelerate the adoption of PCI Express-based notebooks in all market segments. The MXM initiative supports a wide range of graphics solutions from any GPU manufacturer, allowing system integrators maximum flexibility for build-to-order with various graphics solutions. MXM will also serve as the primary delivery vehicle for NVIDIA® next generation GPUs based on the GeForce™ Go6 series architecture.
In addition, NVIDIA has also worked closely with component vendors such as Speedtech, ACES, Foxconn, and Tyco to prepare ODMs and OEMs for the transition to mobile PCI Express. MXM is a consistent graphics interface that is available for all notebook and GPU hardware manufacturers.
