Sony Ericsson trumpets Xperia arc

Sony Ericsson has unveiled the Xperia arc, its first smartphone powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

The new handset will be also be the first of a new generation of Xperia handsets to be announced in 2011, according to the firm.

With a light and skinny arced body, the handset also boasts a 4.2 inch touchscreen ‘reality display' with mobile BRAVIA engine for what Sony Ericsson calls ‘visual brilliance'.

The smartphone also packs an 8.1MP camera, Exmor R for mobile sensor for HD videos, smile and face detection plus built-in HDMI connector.

The handset offers all the usual music features plus TrackID music recognition app, a NeoReader barcode scanner, 3D games, video streaming, DNLA and a whole host of Google services. It weighs in at 117 grams, with phone memory of 512MB and 1GHz Qualcomm processor.

Sony Ericsson's newest handset will be available globally starting in Japan in Q1 in 2 flavours of midnight blue and misty silver.

Sony Ericsson's president, Bert Nordberg, said: "We're starting strong in 2011 by introducing our most exciting Xperia product yet. Xperia arc combines state-of-the-art Sony technology with breathtaking design to entertain and wow consumers. All on the latest Android release."

I guess that means they've given up on all the narked off X users who won't be getting another update then! If there's one manufacturer to avoid for smartphones, Sony Ericsson have earned that crown.
Yes after getting an X10 I can't say I'd trust SE on their claims. The X10 was shown getting DLNA and multitouch from the early marketing material. When the dust settled these never appeared. Also only ever had 64K colours and 2.1 which is poor for the age of the device. Would wait for others to purchase and see what actually comes out at the end.

You'll be luck to get any updates or service from SE with their phones. Wish they wouldn't bother and concentrate on TVs.
