Back in February we heard that games software publisher Bethesda would be holding a special press conference at E3 2015. This is the first time the publisher has hosted an E3 showcase and we were promised that it would be "our most exciting event yet". Bethesda is the company behind franchises such as Fallout, DOOM and Skyrim – so a lot of people were excited about the announcement.
Now we have concrete evidence of at least one of the big reveals planned by Bethesda at E3. The firm has just published a very brief (11 sec) trailer for DOOM that teases a 'worldwide gameplay reveal' at the special press conference. Its E3 showcase event takes place on Sunday, 14th June at 7pm PT.
This looks to be one of the ever more common games industry 'trailer trailers'. We don't see very much at all, except someone loading a double-barrelled shotgun and a gruesome monster packing a rocket launcher array presumably advancing towards us.
DOOM is one of the pioneering PC industry games and I remember many computer gaming friends seeing DOOM as the killer PC app that made them leave their Amiga computers behind. The new DOOM will be released for Windows PCs, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Old hands iD software will be behind the game development and it will run on the iD Tech 6 Engine.
Gamers are already on tenterhooks waiting for news from Bethesda's E3 event concerning Fallout 4. Only last week we saw a high profile CG Artist had listed a "Fallout 4 cinematic trailer" within his LinkedIn work experience profile – information which was then hastily removed. It is hoped more concrete information regarding the game will emerge from E3.
For a reminder I've embedded last year's DOOM E3 teaser. Remember this year we will see 'gameplay'. Bethesda's special E3 event will be streamed live on Twitch.TV/Bethesda. The associated game trailers will pop up on YouTube very shortly after announcement too, we expect.
