Last week HEXUS attended ATI's Magically Mysterious DX10 Tour in London, where Richard 'Lord' Huddy told us that DirectX 10 will be exclusive to Windows Vista and will ship with the product in January 2007.

The statement has now been confirmed by a Microsoft spokesperson who today told Next-gen biz, "DirectX 10 is exclusive to Windows Vista," he said. The undisclosed person also confirmed that Vista will support DirectX 9.

Crytek, the makers of the game Far Cry, were showing off Direct X 10 gaming at E3, where Crysis wowed the crowds. The stunningly realistic environments left many people stunned, and the HEXUS staff who have seen DirectX 10 in action say that the difference between DirectX 9 and 10 is enormous.

The message to gamers is clear, if you're serious about gaming you must buy Windows Vista.

“Well…THIS sucks!”
what he said ^
Didn't expect any different tbh. :)

The amount of work required to allow DX10 to run on XP will be quite phenominal, DX9 -> DX10 conversion/upgrade/change/compatilibilty is more than just adding a few pixel shaders.

As most will know, DX10 requires new hardware, not just software, so the OS will need to be able to run the hardware as well, which is not as easy as just using different drivers. :)
money grabbing gits tbh
TBH i think Windows Vista will be the first Operating system that I actually buy, it is looking good tbh. And all I need next year is a graphics card so I can afford to buy the OS aswell. DX10 is going to be the absolute best dx ever released and its not to be missed, we all know microsoft are money grabbers but who else is there tbh?
