Alongside today's announcement of Sony's brand new hand-held, the NGP , comes big news for owners of Android devices.

The NGP comes equipped with a host of technically impressive features, but what we weren't expecting was the announcement of the PlayStation Suite, a new software platform that will allow Android owners to access and play PlayStation content on their portable devices. This is the first time ever that PlayStation content has been made available on an open operating system.

Casually gaming on Android devices is currently big business, and by tapping into the market Sony will be offering PlayStation quality content to the masses. The partnership involves logo licensing, so it may not be long before we Android devices with a shiny PlayStation logo plastered across the front of them. Sony is also offering a PlayStation Certified license program for hardware manufacturers and development support.

A range of PlayStation One classic games will launch on Android devices later this year, and Sony will also open up access to the PlayStation Store allowing users to download other content directly onto their portables. With this new partnership, Sony hopes that developers will create high quality games specifically for this new platform that fit in line with the PlayStation brand. All of the content developed for the PlayStation Suite will also be avaiable to those who own the new NGP hand-held, which is due for launch before the end of the year, 2011.
