Activision to shut Infinity Ward

Rumours are circulating about the uncertain future of Infinity Ward after the recent walkouts and lawsuits against the developer.

It's said that Activision will shut Infinity Ward following the completion of the second map pack for Modern Warfare 2.

According to Mike Hickey, analyst for Janco Partners, the development of Modern Warfare 3 will be handled by two other studios.

"Continued defections from their Infinity Ward studio have created meaningful uncertainty around the future of their Call of Duty: Modern Warfare franchise,"

"We expect Infinity Ward studio will be essentially closed after their next map pack release, with development work on Modern Warfare 3 spread between two studios not historically tied to the franchise."

About a quarter of IW’s 100 or so staff are already thought to have left since March, many of which have reportedly joined ex-Infinity Ward bosses’ studio, Respawn.

Expected this for a while now, became inevitable to be honest. The question is, where do they go from here? IW has always been the inspiration for CoD, and Treyarch have been hangers on at best. They'll need some genuine inspiration to haul the series out of the mire.
The class lawsuit against Acti by devs owed their millions gets some new ammunition!
This is the danger of being a second party studio, rather than contracting as a third party
Why did these devs walk out? MW is such a fantastic game. Why have they sparked its demise?

Because Activision didn't pay up bonuses that IW we're apparently meant to recieve and IW are claiming they were being held to ransom for said bonuses. Basically, Activision think they're the player that's bigger than the club and while it may be true in a sense, they have now lost there second (I'm guessing) ‘best’ developer because of it.

In other news I suppose you can look forward to quality games coming from Respawn :)
