Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has gone on record to predict that set top boxes will change the way we game, while also suggesting that the iPhone is just the beginning of Apple's push into the gaming market.

Speaking during Ubisoft's financial conference call this week, Guillemot said:

"You saw new interfaces with the Wiimote and also with the DS with the stylus. What we see for the future is they will also be big announcement in interfaces. It will not only happen in consoles but also happen on those TV boxes as well… We will see more consoles on which we will be able to put products."

Guillemot also suggested that Apple may have something bigger than the iPhone up its sleeve: "There's also a new entrant in the business," he said. "[That entrant is] Apple, with the iPhone. And we don't think they will stop there."

The comments come following the release of Ubisoft's financial results in which it reported a €41 million drop in annual net profit for FY 2008-2009. Guillemot said the publisher will now curb hiring new employees over the next year.
