OCZ has expanded its line of DDR3 memory kits with a couple of solutions tailored exclusively for AMD's Socket AM3 platforms and Phenom II processors.

The OCZ Black Edition kits, pictured below, are available in a 1,600MHz 4GB (2 x 2GB) capacity, with latencies of either 7-7-7-24 on the range topping kit or 8-8-8-24 on the lesser alternative.

Both kits are certified to work with AMD's OverDrive software utility and offer support for AMD's Black Edition Memory Profiles. The idea is you plug these into a supporting motherboard and AMD's OverDrive software downloads the correct memory profiles from a remote server - providing plug-and-play-like overclocking.

OCZ's modules operate at 1.65V and sport an AMD-branded Xtreme Thermal Convection heatspreader. There's no mention of availability of pricing yet, but they'll be backed by OCZ's Lifetime Warranty.

hmmm. Very shiny and given DDR3 prices still creeping down and DDR2 rising I may have to rethink my “Disposible” DDR2 rig i was going to build.

Now to convince the other half to let me have some play money :P
