New Omnias
The other launches today are three new additions to the Omnia smartphone family.
The Omnia II, otherwise known as the I8000, runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional (as do all the Omnias, it seems) and has a 3.7 inch AMOLED display. This one seems to be focused on multimedia functionality, with 48GB storage to go along with the big screen.
The Omnia PRO (Samsung writes the ‘PRO' as a superscript), or B7610, stresses Work, life balance. It has a QWERTY keypad, but also a touch screen. It features an Opera 9.5 browser, supports Microsoft Office, and has a 5MP camera, GPS and TV out.
The Omnia LITE (B7300) seems to be a lower-end version of the PRO. It doesn't have a QWERTY keypad, the camera is only 3MP, and there's no TV out. It does still have GPS, however.
It looks like all the heavy hitters of the mobile world, in addition to new entrants like Palm, are making their move in the smartphone space right now. With another wave of smart mobile devices expected when platforms like Snapdragon and Tegra start appearing in products, this sector is only going to get hotter as the year goes on.
