Press release

London, UK, 7 April, 2009 - Samsung Mobile today launched the new benchmark in ruggedised mobile phones, the Samsung Solid Extreme. The handset will be available on Vodafone and O2 from April 2009. Beneath the stylish exterior lies a real powerhouse of a phone, tested to withstand exceptionally tough outdoor conditions. Whether rock-climbing or canoeing, on a construction site or in a warehouse, the Samsung Solid Extreme has been created to perform when and where the user needs it most.

Following on from previous models Samsung Solid and Samsung B2700, the Samsung Solid Extreme takes ruggedised features to the next level. Whether in the severe wet or cold, the Samsung Solid Extreme is designed for tough conditions particularly benefiting outdoor workers and those leading an active outdoor life. The IP rating of 57 means the Samsung Solid Extreme has a high immunity to dust and water surviving drops from a height of up to 2m and even full water submersion up to 1m. Sand and dust will no longer clog up consumer's devices, nor will a drop into white water rapids or a toilet bowl prevent it from working.

"Our ruggedised phones have proved extremely popular, and the Samsung Solid Extreme is set to raise the bar again," said Mark Mitchinson, Vice President of Samsung Mobile UK and Ireland. "Work or play, whether you're on the ski slopes or on a building site, it's vital to have a reliable phone that you can totally depend on in all conditions. The Solid Extreme does all this without compromising on technology, applications and the usual Samsung style."

The Samsung Solid Extreme also has the functionality to suit outdoor conditions and loud surroundings, with a one-touch torchlight, an extremely loud speaker, customisable vibration and caller notification designed for loud surroundings. It features acoustic noise cancellation technology so that conversations can be heard loud and clear over background noise, such as drilling or hammering. The large keypad along with the comfortable rubber grip on the sides and back of the phone means it is still easy to use when hands are wet or when the user is wearing gloves.

The Samsung Solid Extreme does all this without compromising on the high-quality multimedia features that users have come to expect from Samsung mobile phones. The device features a 1.3 megapixel camera, video recording and playing (MPEG4, H.263, 3GP), MP3 player and FM radio.

The Samsung Solid Extreme will be launched in red and black and will be available in the UK from April 2009 on Vodafone, O2 and all major retailers.
