Dell not dull

As I say at the start of this TV interview with James Jones, who works in the desktop client solutions arm of Dell, enterprise desktops are hardly the sexy end of the PC market.

But while I'm certainly guilty of being swept along with the mobile device fervour, it's important to remember what a massive and enduring part of the PC market desktops remain. And that's not just for the typical HEXUS consumer reader - who may well have assembled their ideal PC from carefully selected components - but for enterprises too.

A recently launched Dell Optiplex range has some interesting nuances. Firstly it's based on AMD CPUs - something we don't see too often from Dell. Jones explained some of the benefits of this range, including image stability and support for up to four monitors.

In the latter half of the interview we moved onto the broader economic climate in which Jones operates, and he explained that even in difficult economic times, enterprises and the public sector are looking to upgrade their IT in the name of greater efficiency and low total cost of ownership. We also reiterated some of the advantages desktops still have over more trendy form-factors.
