Conclusion

...offers huge storage potential in a simple, easy-to-use box that can handle everything from client backups to office surveillance.

The DS1515 is the Synology NAS that many businesses will have been waiting for. Offering five bays, an array of SMB features and ample expandability, it offers huge storage potential in a simple, easy-to-use box that can handle everything from client backups to office surveillance.

The use of a quad-core ARM-based processor has lowered the cost of entry compared to the existing Intel equivalent, yet performance remains solid and is backed by a hardware encryption engine, floating point unit and four Gigabit Ethernet ports with link aggregation.

Bottom line: ready to centralise your small business storage? Synology's DS1515 is a very safe bet.

I'd still have the QNAP
Huge storage capacity, quick operation, multi-functions, energy efficiency and powerful and easy-to-use apps are indispensible for today's NASes. I would like to try this soon.
Thanks Parm - I've got the DS1515+ thanks to recommendations by fellow Hexites, when I'd walked out of the shop with a WD unit during Christmas. Glad I returned it and got the Synology. Would have been nice to see how this compares agains the 1515+ to see how much that (+) gets you performance wise.

Otherwise, good review, ta :)
