Conclusion

Accept that fact and, if you can make real use of its smaller dimensions and class-leading efficiency, it's certainly worthy of consideration.

Buying a nascent 80 PLUS Titanium-rated power supply still attracts a healthy premium over a Gold model. The increase in efficiency, to the tune of a few per cent, only pays off in the long term, and for those who keep the PSU under load more often than not.

With almost every PSU player having multiple supplies in this segment, SilverStone goes for something different with its Strider Platinum 800W. Shorter than rival PSUs bearing similar innards, it appeals to those of you who build small-form-factor systems and want the maximum possible room for effective cable management and airflow.

Yet the prosaic truth is that most smaller chassis are purposely designed to accommodate deeper models, so it's a case of matching this supply up with a limited-depth chassis. A smaller size also means a lower ambient temperature rating and, specific to SilverStone, a warranty shorter than rivals.

The SilverStone Strider Titanium is a niche PSU. Accept that fact and, if you can make real use of its smaller dimensions and class-leading efficiency, it's certainly worthy of consideration.
