Conclusion

If you're willing to give up a percentage point here or there and opt for 80 PLUS Gold instead, thus lowering price by a reasonable margin, then a supply like the Corsair RM850i should fit the bill.

What are the main requirements when contemplating a new power-supply unit? For us it's very solid performance across a battery of tests, intimating that the supply will serve you well no matter which components you put into it. Next comes very low (or no) noise, decent warranty and a fully modular, flexible cable layout.

Ticking all these boxes is the RM850i from Corsair. Modernised from the older RM series through a series of useful improvements, performance is strong in all areas.

We've seen our fair share of super-expensive power supplies that tout the very highest efficiency. If you're willing to give up a percentage point here or there and opt for 80 PLUS Gold instead, thus lowering price by a reasonable margin, then a supply like the Corsair RM850i should fit the bill. Recommended at Ā£120.

will it be available on Amazon and Newegg?
I'd imagine so, yes. In fact it is already on pre-order at Newegg.

It's bit of an old article now but still worth a read on the relevance of 80plus PSU'S.

I am still a person who will choose Antec, Sea Sonic and possibly some other psus before I go Corsair ever. One thing is for sure I can get some good deals on Antec psus every once in awhile and they have never failed me so why switch?
