Conclusion

If Fractal can see its way down to, say, £75, the Ion SFX Gold would be excellent rather than merely good...

Fractal Design's move into the small-form-factor PSU realm is manifested by a pair of SFX-L supplies going by Ion Gold branding

Hitting many of the performance straps we like to see, Ion Gold touts flexible cables, decent voltage regulation, top-notch low-load efficiency, reasonable ripple suppression, and decent noise and temps. It's clear that Fractal has done its homework and partnered up with an OEM that knows its business.

About our only reservation is the price, which at £85 is about £15 dearer than a SilverStone 80 PLUS Gold SFX-L carrying many of the same attributes. If Fractal can see its way down to, say, £75, the Ion SFX Gold would be excellent rather than merely good.

Nevertheless, the 500W model is a solid showing for anyone looking at a high-quality small-form-factor PSU.

that will be on a the short list for many builds now :)

awesome little thing.
why oh why is the picture on the conclusion page upside down?
Looks like the same OEM that Corsair uses, with the weird ATX 24 pin connector with the seriously messed up pin-out, making tidy cabling a bloody nightmare.

the electricity would spill out if it was the other way up and environmentally, as much electricity as possible is saved in the making of a review.
