Conclusion

...a 34in, 5,120x2,160 panel, whose 21:9 aspect ratio and generous vertical resolution bode well for the target audience...

MSI is hoping to capture a slice of the lucrative creator market with a handful of products launched under the Prestige Series umbrella. Initially comprised of laptops, desktops and monitors, the range is intended to empower creativity and represents a new challenge for a manufacturer traditionally associated with gaming.

We will be taking a closer look at the Prestige P100 compact desktop PC in the very near future, yet given the goal of accelerating workflow, the Prestige PS341WU monitor is a key element of MSI's strategy and first under the review microscope.

Our findings reveal two sides to this ultrawide, high-resolution display. On the one hand, there are enviable characteristics that make the PS341WU a creator's paradise. These include a 34in, 5,120x2,160 panel, whose 21:9 aspect ratio and generous vertical resolution bode well for the target audience, and both decent brightness and outstanding out-the-box colour accuracy that help brings visuals to life.

On the other hand, the monitor can feel rough around the edges, as there are elements that fall short of our expectations of a £1,100 solution. Uniformity could be better, black levels and contrast are below average, and the HDR experience isn't the best. Add to that the absence of integrated speakers, as well as an overly-complicated firmware upgrade process and a white chassis that isn't for everyone, and you're left with the feeling that Prestige Series products are still finding their feet.

Still, 5,120x2,160 solutions are few and far between, and if you can live with some of the aforementioned shortcomings, the ultrawide WUHD canvas ensures the PS341WU remains a desirable place to work.

It is not bad that it is without speakers, most do not use the speakers anyway, so for most it is a waste of space.. and if you need speakers built in, you can always buy another brand.
Yeah, honestly I'd say anyone that is involved with content creation won't want pathetic speakers built in - so IMO it should be a pro not a con :)
I'm finding it very hard to get excited over any peripherals at £1k+ these days…
ALL I want is a decent High resolution 32“ 4:3 monitor, or maybe 34”. 5120 x 3840. Sod this wide angle stuff.
5,120x2,160

Since when do we add the comma to a screen res?
