...one of the best gaming experiences you're likely to find on a PC display, yet even at this lofty £1,800 price point, there are a few unavoidable caveats.
The Acer Predator X27 is one of the best gaming monitors to date and impresses through a lavish specification that includes 4K resolution, G-Sync at up to 144Hz and DisplayHDR 1000 certification.
Such niceties deliver one of the best gaming experiences you're likely to find on a PC display, yet even at this lofty £1,800 price point, there are a few unavoidable caveats.
Needing a fan to keep cool is far from ideal, the halo effect visible when light objects overlay dark backgrounds can be distracting, and the graphics power needed to drive so many pixels also requires consideration. Even the RTX 2080 Ti in our test platform struggles to render over 80 frames per second in many modern titles, so while 4K at 144Hz sounds tasty on paper, don't expect to routinely take full advantage using current hardware.
Can any of the aforementioned foibles be considered dealbreakers for enthusiast gamers? For most, Predator X27's stunning visuals will be enough to overcome any lingering doubts, but for me personally, constant fan noise is one compromise too far.
Bottom line: Predator X27 may have inadvertently highlighted some of the problems facing current panel technologies, but it also shows what PC gaming can achieve when 4K UHD, 144Hz G-Sync and HDR are brought together.
