You might think from our description so far that the Foxconn 975X7AB is a bit of a disappointment. Compared to Abit's AW9D Max it's not a tour de force. From the box presentation to the bundled contents, it seems a plain and unexciting selection. But the Foxconn does have another trick up its sleeve - the price. Costing a tad under £117 inc VAT from Scan.co.uk, it's the cheapest i975X chipset board we know of by a significant margin, undercutting everything by at least £15 and most competitors by £30 or more. It's even cheaper than a number of lesser i965-chipset boards.

Considering that none of the problems we encountered were terminal, and many are likely to be fixed with BIOS and utility updates, we'd have to say the Foxconn makes a great deal. The hardware is basically very sound, and it finished our burn-in tests without issue. You might be able to achieve higher overclocks elsewhere, and be supplied with a few more USB 2 port brackets out of the box, but this motherboard could still adeptly form the centre of a high-end CrossFire-ready gaming system. We're informed that it will be Core 2 Quad-compatible, so if you're planning to build a power Intel-based system, now or in the near future, Foxconn's 975X7AB makes good economic sense.

looks like a good board to work with .
and btw that how i like my motherboards to be a no frills package i usually upgrade in place so i have all the cables i need already
Seems odd to compare it against a AM2 board, but looks like good value.
chuckskull

I found that strange as well. I'd like to see a direct comparision with another 975x board (Abit maybe?). We all know Core 2 should be faster than AMD, so seems to defeat the point a bit :)
hi,

can someone confirm that this version 975X7AB-8EKRS2H of the motherboard (not the 975X7AB-2.0-8EKRS2H) supports Quad Core cpus? I have mine running now with a Intel Pentium DualCore E2180 and wanted to upgrade to a Core 2 Quad Q6600 (Stepping G0, “Kentsfield”) or
Xeon 3210 (“Kentsfield”).

thanks
