Final Thoughts and Rating

HEXUS Snapshot:

Neither the lacklustre display resolution nor the constant fan noise could be considered deal-breakers, but together with mediocre Wi-Fi performance, there are enough reasons not to consider the U310 as a compelling Ultrabook.

Lenovo's IdeaPad U310 should have been one of the best Ultrabooks to date. Priced at under £650, it marries the capabilities of an Intel Core processor with the speed of a solid-state cache and delivers the responsiveness we've come to expect from a premium machine at a more palatable price.

With a great keyboard, sturdy build quality and an attractive design, the U310 has almost all of the right ingredients. But the laptop market is so fiercely contested that the merest hint of a flaw will push punters toward rival solutions. Unfortunately for Lenovo, the U310 has a couple of blemishes on an otherwise charming veneer.

Neither the lacklustre display resolution nor the constant fan noise could be considered deal-breakers, but together with mediocre Wi-Fi performance, there are enough reasons not to consider the U310 as a compelling Ultrabook.

A shame, really, as a higher pixel count, a quieter fan and a Wi-Fi solution that works as intended is all that's needed for the IdeaPad U310 to become one of the best Ultrabooks on the market.

The Good

Looks fantastic
Good build quality
Great keyboard
Feels fast and responsive

The Bad

Weak 1,366x768 display
Poor wireless performance
Constant fan noise

If they made one of these built around Trinity it would be an insta-buy, namely because it would be a fair bit cheaper!

Keep an eye for Black Friday they have some crazy deals in that period. Pity other than that Lenovo is very pricey..

“Ultra Laptop” - love it. I bet that machine would be awesome with an SSD.

Add an SSD and the price would be the same as an intel ultrabook anyway…. all of which reconfirms that going AMD barely saves you anything at all sadly
