Final thoughts, rating and HEXUS.right2reply
There's a lot to like when it comes to Lenovo's multi-touch ThinkPad T400s. Build quality is about as good as it gets, and both the keyboard and trackpad are of a very high standard.
With a quick Intel Core 2 Duo processor and a solid-state drive at the helm, all-round system responsiveness is excellent. Coupled with near-silent operation and an ultra-thin form factor, it's almost a business masterclass.
Yet, it isn't without its faults. Considering the starting price of nearly £1,500, the lack of discrete graphics is disappointing, and we expected much more in terms of battery life.
The all-new multi-touch display, too, is a mixed bag. Albeit excellent in terms of quality, the usefulness of a multi-touch display in a notebook form factor remains a question mark. The argument becomes more compelling when you realise that the T400s is £237 cheaper when purchased without a touchscreen.
In summary, the many positives far outweigh the sprinkling of negatives. If you're in the market for a multi-touch business notebook, you'll be hard pushed to find one better than the ThinkPad T400s.
The Good
High-quality construction and finish
Excellent keyboard and trackpad
Near-silent in use and snappy all-round performance
Highly-responsive capacitive multi-touch display
The Bad
You'll wish it was a tablet
Poor battery life
No option for discrete graphics
