Conclusion

...Asus backs the eye-catching exterior with capable all-round performance, an enjoyable keyboard and trackpad, as well as a trio of USB Type-C ports.

The Asus ZenBook 3 Deluxe UX490UA is a stylish 14in laptop that ticks most of the relevant boxes while falling short on a couple of key points.

From an aesthetic perspective, the £1,200 base model appears to be worth every penny, with Asus's rigid and incredibly thin chassis doing a grand job of presenting a 14in PC in a compact, light and ultra-portable form factor.

Being one of the best-looking laptops on the market is a natural attraction, and Asus backs the eye-catching exterior with capable all-round performance, an enjoyable keyboard and trackpad, as well as a trio of USB Type-C ports.

The foundations are there for the UX490UA to be a best-in-class solution, but the absence of a touchscreen will be a deal breaker for some, fan noise is distracting, the webcam is well below average, and battery life falls short of the preferred 10-hour mark.

Bottom line: the ZenBook 3 Deluxe is a beautiful addition to Asus's flagship laptop portfolio, but it lacks the low noise and long battery life required to make it feel like a truly next-gen machine.

The Bad

That with a Kaby refresh Quad core would be a very attractive machine
I really like these laptops, though the branding is so disappointing.

They're never going to be seen as a true contender to Apple and the like whilst they've got such obnoxious names.

Maybe it works in some regions, but not in Europe and North America IMO.
No DDR4 for a >£1k laptop is crazy. I could understand if it was using LPDDR3, because there's been rumours of supply for LPDDR4 being short, but if you're running full-fat then a laptop worth more than a grand is worth the tiny premium
It looks like its inspired by that racing version of the renault zoe.
No dedicated GPU? Not even a MX150? I want at least something for that money.
