Conclusion

Offering excellent performance at either FHD or QHD resolutions, and making a reasonable fist of things at 4K UHD, the GTX 1070 is ultimately the best GPU at its price point.

Willing to splash up to £500 on a shiny new graphics card? Approach with tempered expectations as such funds are only enough to bag a third-tier GPU in today's market. The top-of-the-range GeForce GTX Titan X is out of reach, as is the second-rung GeForce GTX 1080, so you'll need to settle on the GeForce GTX 1070 that's next in line.

Offering excellent performance at either FHD or QHD resolutions, and making a reasonable fist of things at 4K UHD, the GTX 1070 is ultimately the best GPU at its price point. The Founders Edition, at £399, has set the stage, and Nvidia's army of add-in-board partners have fleshed-out the range with a variety of custom-cooled and factory overclocked designs.

In the premium end of the market, EVGA's £430 GeForce GTX 1070 FTW offers excellence in almost all areas. Build quality is solid throughout, the cooler performs admirably, there's a healthy core overclock right out of the box, and if aesthetics are a concern for your next PC, this is one of the best-looking interpretations we've seen. Factory overclocked memory would have been the icing on the cake, and we'd like to see pricing edge closer to the £400 mark, but other than that there are no obvious weaknesses.

Bottom line: settled on GTX 1070 and wondering which card to go for? EVGA's FTW should be near the top of your list.

The Bad

Warranty, Performance and Support/Reliability are always top-notch with EVGA, I don't see myself buying any other brand for Nvidia GPU or PSU any time soon.

I'm still running a 980Ti FTW and it's been brilliant, if a little warm ‘n loud (hoping a new cavernous case will help solve that one).

I’d certainly recommend installing the Precision software as you can set your fan profiles up so that your office doesn't sound like the runway of a busy airport and tweak the overclocks reasonably easily.

Depending on prices (and if an EVGA 1080Ti) lands anytime before xmas, I might be SLIing a couple of these as a new year treat.
Any news on the EVGA GTX 1070 Classified yet? Not sure if i should hold out for one of those or get the FTW edition.
The 980 NEEDS to be on each chart as that's very close to the 1070
This is the card I've been waiting for. Sadly a house move means it'll have to wait a bit longer for me.
Arguably a card for 4K too, if you don't mind turning down a setting or two. If you can get a decent price initially and then later on, you might be able to SLI 2 1070s for just over the price of a 1080 currently.
